Arensch is a district of the Berensch-Arensch district of Cuxhaven in Lower Saxony .

history

The communities Arensch, Berensch , Cuxhaven , Döse , Duhnen , Groden , Gudendorf , Holte , Insel Neuwerk , Oxstedt , Ritzebüttel , Sahlenburg , Spangen , Stickenbüttel , Süder- and Westerwisch belonged to the Hamburg office of Ritzebüttel until 1864 and then to the Ritzebüttel estate . In 1926 the municipalities of Arensch, Berensch, Duhnen, Groden, Gudendorf, Holte, Insel Neuwerk, Oxstedt, Sahlenburg, Spangen, Stickenbüttel, Süder- and Westerwisch became part of the Hamburg rulership. With the Greater Hamburg Act from April 1, 1937 were the municipalities Arensch, Berensch, Gudendorf, Oxstedt, Sahlenburg, Holte and bracelets on county land Hadeln , district of Stade of the Prussian province of Hannover .

Various rocket tests were carried out near Arensch between 1945 and 1964. The A4 rockets of Operation Backfire took off in October 1945 from a launch site in the Wernerwald between Arensch and Sahlenburg , of which some bunker remains and a hollow in the ground are left. From 1957 to 1964, the Hermann Oberth Society and a few other experimenters launched numerous rockets with summit heights of up to 50 kilometers near the building yard located northwest of Arensch and in the foreland. The Berthold Seliger Research and Development Company carried out further rocket tests near Berensch , where peaks of up to 100 kilometers were reached .
