The district of Zellerfeld was a district in Lower Saxony . In common parlance, it was and is incorrectly called the district of Clausthal-Zellerfeld because of its district town .
Neighboring areas
The county bordered the beginning of 1972 in a clockwise direction in the northwest starting from the districts Gandersheim and Goslar , the independent city of Goslar and the exclave Bad Harzburg the district Wolfenbüttel (all in Lower Saxony), the county Wernigerode (in the East ) and to the counties Blankenburg and Osterode am Harz (both in turn in Lower Saxony).

The Zellerfeld district was formed in 1885 from the old Zellerfeld office . It was dissolved on the occasion of the Lower Saxony regional reform on July 1, 1972 and divided between the districts of Osterode am Harz and Goslar . At the same time, numerous communities in the district were merged.

License Plate
On July 1, 1956, the district was assigned the distinctive sign CLZ when the vehicle registration number that is still valid today was introduced . It is derived from the former district town of Clausthal-Zellerfeld and was issued until October 11, 1972. Due to the license plate liberalization , it has been available again in the Goslar district since November 15, 2012.
