Landolin Winterer , also Landelin Winterer , (born February 28, 1832 in Ober-Sulzbach , † October 30, 1911 in Sankt Peter ) was a Catholic clergyman , writer and member of the German Reichstag .

Live and act

Landolin Winterer, son of an industrial worker from Baden who immigrated to Alsace , attended the boys' seminary in Lachapelle-sous-Rougemont and studied Catholic theology in the seminary in Strasbourg , where he was ordained a priest in 1856. From 1856 to 1861 he worked as a chaplain in Bischweiler , then until 1866 in Colmar . From 1866 to 1871 he was the pastor of Gebweiler , then he officiated in the same function at Mulhouse .

In 1874 Winterer was elected a member of the Reichstag for the constituency of Alsace-Lorraine 1 ( Altkirch and Thann ) , where he initially joined the protesters (who worked closely with the center in the Reichstag ) and, until his departure in 1903, the interests of his homeland and represented the Catholic Church. The priests Jacob Ignatius Simonis , Joseph Guerber and Landolin Winterer were considered to be the leading figures of the Catholic-Alsatian group. At least in the Reichstag election in 1890 , Winterer were not opposed by the Old German side.

Since 1879 he was also an elected member of the Mulhouse district in the Alsace-Lorraine regional committee , which at that time was still a purely notable chamber.

In addition to apologetic and political writings, Landolin Winterer wrote many articles on the history of the Alsatian church. Since 1871 he had the title of Monsignor and Honorary Canon (Canon); In 1908 he became an honorary apostolic protonotary , in 1909 he was appointed to the State Council due to his political merits .

At the solemn laying of the foundation stone for the new pilgrimage church of St. Morandus in Altkirch, Winterer gave the sermon as the guest of honor on April 6, 1885.

In the work Das Alsace from 1870-1932 (Alsatia-Verlag, Colmar, 1938) Landolin Winterer is characterized as "a person who is valued by all and who is impressive through knowledge and ability" (see individual references under No. 3).
