Jacob Ignatius Simonis
Jakob Ignatius Simonis (born March 12, 1831 in Ammerschweier in Alsace , † February 11, 1903 in Oberbronn ) was a Catholic clergyman, professor and member of the Reichstag .
Simonis studied theology in Strasbourg and was ordained a priest there on June 10, 1854, then went to the episcopal grammar school in Colmar as a professor and then taught at the great seminary in Strasbourg. He was pastor in Bischheim , editor of the “Volksbote” and since 1872 superior of the Niederbronn sisters in the mother house in Oberbronn .
From 1874 to 1898 he sat as a non-attached member of the German Reichstag . As a member of parliament, he represented the constituency of Alsace-Lorraine 5 (Rappoltsweiler). The priests Jakob Ignatius Simonis, Joseph Guerber and Landolin Winterer were considered to be the leading figures of the Catholic-Alsatian protest group.
