Franz Josef Faller

Franz Josef Faller (born February 18, 1820 in Lenzkirch ; † May 21, 1887 in Titisee ) was a manufacturer and member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Faller attended schools in neighboring Switzerland at Rheinau Abbey and in Yverdon before completing an apprenticeship in Frankfurt am Main . After completing his apprenticeship, Faller worked in the straw hat production in Vallonara di Marostica from spring to autumn . Later he set up a wall clock factory in Lenzkirch for the production of Black Forest clocks .

Before he was appointed to the First Chamber of the Landtag by the Grand Duke of Baden in 1863 , to which he belonged in the sessions from 1863 to 1868 and from 1879 to 1884, he was already in the Frankfurt National Assembly in the Paulskirche in the summer of 1848 . From 1874 to 1877 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency of Baden 3 (Waldshut) and the National Liberal Party .

He particularly sponsored the building of the Höllentalbahn . Therefore, he was supposed to greet Grand Duke Friedrich I with a speech at the ceremonial opening of the railway on May 21, 1887 . Immediately before the arrival of the special train that brought the Grand Duke and the guests to the Titisee station , Faller suffered a stroke that led to his death.

Since September 2019 there has been the Franz-Josef-Faller-Schule in Lenzkirch, a privately owned community school for the Black Forest.
