Adalbert Freiherr von Nordeck zur Rabenau (born December 30, 1817 in Darmstadt ; † March 18, 1892 at Friedelhausen Castle ) was a lawyer , landowner and member of the Reichstag .

Adalbert von Nordeck zur Rabenau comes from the Nordeck zur Rabenau family and was the son of the colonel and Hessian member of the state parliament Georg von Nordeck zur Rabenau (1777-1858) and his wife Luise Christiane, born Freiin von Zwierlein, widowed von Grolman. Adalbert von Nordeck zur Rabenau, who was a Protestant denomination, married in 1849 in London Clara, born Phillips (1826-1867). After her death in 1878, he married Bianka Julie Elisabeth (Cucius) von Wallenberg, widowed Countess von Bethusy-Huc (* 1842).

Life

Nordeck studied from 1835 to 1839 law at the universities of Bonn , Berlin and Giessen . He had been a member of the Corps Guestphalia Bonn since 1835 . In 1839 he passed the state examination in law and received his doctorate in Giessen. In 1842 he became a chamberlain, later a secretary at the district court of Grünberg and in 1847 he became district secretary in Grünberg , and in 1873 he became an agricultural councilor. In 1863 he became chamberlain . He was president of the agricultural association for the province of Upper Hesse in the Grand Duchy of Hesse- Darmstadt.

Nordeck married at the age of 32 on January 4, 1849 in London, the 23-year-old Clara Phillips (1826-1867), daughter of Alfred Phillips, diamond wholesaler, finance broker, and Rebecca Samuel. From her fortune he acquired the Friedelhausen estate near Lollar and built Friedelhausen Castle in the late Gothic style in 1851 . In 1867, at the age of only 41, his wife Clara died. With her he had two daughters and a son, who died while his father was still alive. The two daughters were Luise and Alice, barons from Nordeck zur Rabenau. Luise (1849–1906) married Count Karl Viktor Hans Bogislav Count von Schwerin from the House of Schwerinsburg (1844–1901), her daughter Gudrun Baronin von Uexküll (1878–1969) married the biologist Jakob Johann von Uexküll (1864–1944). Alice Irmgard (1857–1908), eight years younger sister, married the Berlin lawyer Hugo Andreas Faehndrich, remained childless and was already widowed when Rilke met her in 1905 in Friedelhausen. In 1905 and 1906, Rainer Maria Rilke stayed at Friedelhausen Castle for a few weeks at the invitation of Countess Luise von Schwerin. The castle is still owned by the countess's family and is inhabited. The interior of the castle cannot be visited. The Berlin lawyer Hugo Andreas Faehndrich and his wife Alice Irmgard were also the owners of the Villa Discopoli on Capri, where Rainer Maria Rilke was also a guest of the widow Alice in 1906/7.

Since his second marriage remained childless, Nordeck then adopted his grandson, Count Eberhard von Schwerin, to continue his line. However, this was declared null and void by the Supreme Court in Leipzig upon complaint by his relatives, which is why the line was extinguished.

Adalbert Nordeck zur Rabenau was from 1847 to 1849, 1851 to 1856 and 1872 to 1892 a member of the 2nd Chamber of the Estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse and represented conservative positions there. He was elected in 1847 (11th electoral term) for the manorial nobility in 1851 (14th electoral term) for the constituency Upper Hesse 8 / Herbstein and 1872 to 1892 (electoral period 21-27) for the electoral district Oberhessen 6 / Grünberg. In 1848 he was a member of the preliminary parliament .

Nordeck was a member of the Reichstag of the North German Confederation from 1867 to 1870 and from 1871 to 1881 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency of Hesse 1 (Gießen-Grünberg-Nidda). In the constituent Reichstag of the North German Confederation he had joined the faction of the Old Liberal Center, was then non-attached until 1871, belonged to the faction of the Liberal Reich Party from 1871 to 1874 and joined the free conservative faction after the faction was dissolved. In 1871 he was one of the 30 members of the Imperial Deputation of the Reichstag of the North German Confederation in Versailles who directly witnessed the establishment of the Empire .
