Heinrich Schmalbach

Heinrich Schmalbach IV. (Born November 5, 1838 in Crainfeld ; † October 16, 1909 ) was a Hessian politician ( Hessischer Bauernbund ) and member of the Hessian state parliament . He was born as the son of the mayor and innkeeper Heinrich Schmalbach II and his wife Anna Maria geb. Ruhl born. In 1859 he married Anna Maria Hofmann from Crainfeld.

In 1876 Heinrich Schmalbach IV was elected mayor of Crainfeld and would hold this office for 33 years, until his death. As mayor, he was responsible for important infrastructure projects in Crainfeld, such as the construction of the aqueduct in 1895, the first in a village in the Hohe Vogelsberg , and the new school building in 1907.

He was a member of the Hessian Farmers' Union. For this he was also elected in 1876 as a member of the constituency of Herbstein-Ulrichstein in the second chamber of the state estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse. With one interruption, he was a member until 1884. In 1896 he was re-elected to the state parliament. In the state parliament he was elected second secretary in 1899 and first secretary of the second chamber from 1900.

Together with his Upper Hessian co-members Sebastian Weidner ( Herchenhain ) and Wilhelm Erk (Nidda), he campaigned for the further construction of the Vogelsbergbahn between Lauterbach and Gedern .
