Hermann Ernst Franz Bernhard Prince of Hohenlohe-Langenburg (born August 31, 1832 in Langenburg ; † March 9, 1913 there ) was the 6th Prince of the House of Hohenlohe-Langenburg .

Life

Hermann was the second son of Prince Ernst I zu Hohenlohe-Langenburg and his wife Princess Feodora zu Leiningen , the half-sister of Queen Victoria . After studying law in Berlin, he embarked on a military career. In 1860 he took over as a result of the morganatic marriage of his elder brother Charles the caste domination . On March 4, 1861, he entered the Württemberg Chamber of Notaries , to which he belonged until his death. At the Franco-German War Prince took Hermann actively and belonged from 1871 to 1881 as a member of the Nazi Party the Reichstag on. He won his Reichstag mandate in the constituency of Württemberg 12 ( Gerabronn , Crailsheim , Mergentheim , Künzelsau ). He was a staunch supporter of the Bismarck Empire. In 1881 he suffered a defeat in the election to the Reichstag and concentrated his interest on colonial policy. He was one of the initiators of the foundation of the German Colonial Association and took on various functions for it. From 1877 to 1895 Prince Hermann was also vice-president of the first chamber of the Württemberg states. He was also one of the supporters of the Evangelical Diakoniewerk Schwäbisch Hall , founded in 1886 , of which he chaired the board of directors for eight years before he succeeded Clovis zu Hohenlohe-Schillingsfürst as governor of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine from 1894 to 1907 .

Marriage and offspring

On September 24, 1862, Prince Hermann married Princess Leopoldine of Baden (1837–1903) in Karlsruhe . The marriage had the following three children:

Awards

In 1862 Hohenlohe-Langenburg was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of the Zähringer Löwen and in 1867 he received the Grand Cross of the Order of the Württemberg Crown . By Grand Duke Adolph he was accepted into the Nassau House Order of the Golden Lion on February 17, 1897 .
