Leopoldine, Princess of Baden , full name Princess Leopoldine Wilhelmine Pauline Amalie Maximiliane von Baden (born February 22, 1837 in Karlsruhe , † December 23, 1903 in Strasbourg ) was Princess of Hohenlohe-Langenburg by marriage .

biography

Leopoldine was the fourth and youngest daughter of Margrave Wilhelm von Baden (1792-1859) and his wife Princess Elisabeth von Württemberg (1802-1864), daughter of Duke Ludwig Friedrich von Württemberg . Her paternal grandparents were Karl Friedrich von Baden , first Grand Duke of Baden, and his second wife Baroness Luise Karoline Geyer von Geyersberg, Imperial Countess von Hochberg . She grew up with her two older sisters, Sophie (1834-1904) and Elisabeth (1835-1891), in Karlsruhe.

On September 24, 1862, Princess Leopoldine married Prince Hermann zu Hohenlohe-Langenburg (1832–1913), second son of Prince Ernst I zu Hohenlohe-Langenburg and Princess Feodora zu Leiningen . The marriage had three children:

Princess Leopoldine founded the "Leopoldinen-Verein" and in Strasbourg, where her husband was appointed governor of Alsace-Lorraine , she mainly took on representative tasks. She died one day before Christmas Eve 1903 after a long illness and was buried in the family cemetery in Langenburg .

She was honored in 1871 by being awarded the Order of Olga .
