Eduard Ferdinand Scipio (born August 27, 1837 in Mannheim ; † May 22, 1905 there ) was a German entrepreneur and politician .

He was born as the son of the merchant and private scholar Georg Wilhelm Scipio (1790–1847) and his wife Katharina born from Worms . Wannenmann (1794–1872) was born. Ferdinand Scipio attended the universities in Paris and Heidelberg. As a promoter of new agricultural methods, he built up the Rineck estate in the Odenwald and founded the Idenau plantation in Cameroon . In 1871 he was involved in the establishment of the Rheinische Hypothekenbank in Mannheim and in 1886 the Pfälzische Hypothekenbank . For the National Liberal Party , Scipio was elected to the Reichstag twice in 1874 and 1877 as a member of the constituency of the Grand Duchy of Baden 11 (Mannheim - Schwetzingen - Weinheim) . In 1890 he was re-elected to the Reichstag in the constituency of the Grand Duchy of Hesse 6 (Bensheim - Erbach). He later also belonged to the First Chamber of the Baden Estates .

Since 1864 Scipio was married to Clotilde Jordan, a daughter of the winery owner and politician Ludwig Andreas Jordan . He was awarded the title of a Grand Duke of Baden's Secret Commerce Councilor , and the community of Plankstadt named a street after him because he donated 1,000 marks after a major fire in 1895. Scipio's grave is in the Mannheim main cemetery .

His daughter Hedwig (1867–1935) had married Karl von Gemmingen-Hornberg (1857–1935), the last German district president of Lorraine .

The other daughter Ida Scipio (1866-1939) was active in Mannheim's social work. The town's Ida-Scipio-Heim (old people's home) is named after her.
