Johann Flinner

Johann Flinner (* around 1520 in Zeil am Main ; † December 7, 1578 in Strasbourg ) was a German Lutheran theologian and poet of hymns .

Life

Flinner had been pastor in Augsburg since 1540 , probably at the Holy Cross Church there since 1537 , but was expelled in 1551 for not accepting the interim . He went to Strasbourg, where he was given a position as a parish assistant at St. Aurelia . In 1555 he became a canon at the St. Thomas Church . In 1556 he was given leave of absence from the hospital church in Baden-Baden and in the same year was sent to Heidelberg to accompany Johannes Marbach and to support him in carrying out the Reformation in the Palatinate . Until 1559 he was pastor at the Heidelberg Heiliggeistkirche and member of the church council. In 1559 he returned to Strasbourg and in 1561 was pastor at the cathedral , in 1571 at the St. Thomas Church.

Flinner was the author of sacred songs and a member of the Strasbourg Mastersingers Guild.
