Johann Freitag von Loringhoven (also Johann Freytag von Loringhoven, actually Johann Fridach van Loringhoffe), (* around 1430 at Löringhoff near Datteln in Westphalia; † May 26, 1494 at Wenden ) from the Freytag von Loringhoven family , was a knight of the Teutonic Order and from 1483 to 1494 his landmaster in Livonia .

Johann Freitag von Loringhoven was one of eight Freytag Knights of the Teutonic Order in Livonia . After the forced abdication of his predecessor Bernhard von der Borch (1471–1483), he was elected the Livonian Landmeister of the Teutonic Order , at that time Commander of Reval . He was supposed to end the Order's 200-year struggle for Livonia successfully. He achieved this goal by constantly switching between politics and warfare. In the Livonian civil war he was defeated in 1483 at the Stintsee and won in 1491 in the battle of Neuermühlen (near Riga ). It ushered in the longest internal peace period in Altlivland. When the external opponents of Livonia began to wage war again, they found a solid Livonian religious state.

Freitag von Loringhoven soon recognized Wolter von Plettenberg's extraordinary talent and appointed him Land Marshal of the Teutonic Order in Livonia in 1489 .
