Johann Friedrich August Clar

Johann Friedrich August Clar , also Claar , (born April 7, 1768 in Belzig , Electorate of Saxony , † March 21, 1844 in Berlin ) was a German engraver .

Life

Johann Friedrich August Clar was born as the son of the Chamber Commissioner and bailiff Johann Siegmund Clar and Johanna Dorothea Tunzel. At his father's request, he was supposed to start in the civil service, but he gave in to his son's inclinations. After a trip to Frankfurt am Main in 1790, he returned to continue his education. Soon afterwards he left Leipzig and settled in Berlin . First he made caricatures, later portraits were added. Among other things, he worked on the illustrations for the work of Count von Hoffmannsegg on the flora of Portugal.

His first marriage was to Carolina Friederica Klatschen, and his second marriage to Johanna Cressenzia Hausmann.

The children of the first marriage are Friedrich Ferdinand Albert Clar (born September 15, 1789 in Berlin) and Carl August Ferdinand Clar (born October 14, 1790 in the Meenschens house in Berlin).

The children of the second marriage are Friedrich August Ferdinand Clar (born April 8, 1797 in Berlin) - later an art dealer and engraver in Berlin; Clara Cressentia Clar (born July 5, 1798 in Berlin); Francisca Cressentia Clar (born January 14, 1801 in Berlin); Emilie Mathilde (born August 12, 1802 in Berlin); Mathilde Laura Clar (born July 30, 1812) in Berlin and Constanze Hermenine Clar (born December 14, 1813 in Berlin).

When he died he left a widow and two daughters and a son.
