Johann Friedrich Christian Düffer (born July 11, 1775 in Aurich , East Frisia , † January 11, 1831 in Halle ) was a German physician and professor of pharmacology and pharmacy at the University of Halle-Wittenberg .

Düffer first studied theology , then law and finally medicine . On June 25, 1800, he received his doctorate in medicine. For a while he was a tutor. He then supported Carl August von Madai in the drug expedition of the Francke Foundations in Halle. In 1803 he began to hold medical lectures as a private lecturer in Halle . On September 10, 1810, he received an extraordinary and on March 6, 1817 a full professorship for medicine at the University of Halle. He played a key role in establishing pharmacy in medical science.

On May 19, 1797, Düffer was accepted into the Halle Masonic lodge "To the three swords". From 1818 to 1822 he held the office of deputy (deputy) master from the chair and then for one year that of the master from the chair.

He died in 1831, only 55 years old, of "dropsy of the chest" (probably pleural effusions ).
