Johann Friedrich Falckner

Johann Friedrich Falckner (born August 31, 1642 in Leipzig ; † January 18, 1703 there ) was a Saxon lawyer and mayor of the city of Leipzig four times between 1697 and 1702 .

Career

Falckner (son of Abraham Falckner Kaufmann in Leipzig d. 1657) studied law was and in 1665 at the University of Frankfurt (Oder) Dr. iur. PhD. In the following years he was Imperial Count Palatinate and Councilor of Electoral Saxony. From 1673 to 1697 he was syndic of the city of Leipzig. In 1676 he was elected to the city council. In 1697, 1699, 1700 and 1702 he was mayor of the council.

Falckner was assessor of the Electoral Saxon Schöffenstuhl. In 1697 he became head of the Church of St. Nikolai . He was also the owner of the manors Braußwig and Gestewitz .

Because of his negotiating skills, Falckner was often sent on trips by the city. He was also known for his charity.

He married Anna Susanna Thomas in 1666. She was the daughter of Michael Thomas (councilor and legal consul in Leipzig), who was the brother of Jakob Thomasius . Several children emerged from the marriage, including a. Friedrich Michael Falckner and Abraham Friedrich Falckner, who also studied law in Frankfurt and became legal scholars in Leipzig.
