Johann Friedrich Wilhelm Wachse (baptized on October 5, 1714 in Kolberg ; † August 15, 1773 in Kolberg ) was a German Protestant pastor, writer and historical researcher.

Life

Wachse was born the son of a merchant, probably in 1714 in the city of Kolberg in Pomerania . His baptism on October 5, 1714 in Kolberg Cathedral is documented . He first attended the council school in Kolberg and studied from 1733 at the University of Jena and the University of Halle .

Wachse then worked as a private tutor in Meiningen . He turned down the possibility of getting a job there and went back to his hometown Kolberg. From 1744 to 1748 he was rector of the council school in Kolberg, which he had attended himself. In 1748 he became a Protestant pastor in Kolberg, most recently he was archdeacon at Kolberg Cathedral from 1762 with the further title of monastery preacher. Wachse died in 1773. He was buried in the high choir of the Kolberg Cathedral. Wachse was married and had two sons.

Since 1755 Wachse was a member of the Royal Swedish Society in Greifswald. He was active as a writer. According to the judgment of the historian Gottfried von Bülow, his story of Colberg (1769) has "lasting value due to the attached original documents that have been partially lost".
