Johann Georg Gmelin (painter)

Johann Georg Karl Gmelin (often just Georg Gmelin , born February 2, 1810 in Rome , † May 24, 1854 ) was a German painter .

Life

Born the son of the engraver Wilhelm Friedrich Gmelin , he made a name for himself as a landscape painter and spent most of his life in Rome. On June 27, 1842, he married Enrica Sabucci. Sabucci died during a trip to Germany by Gmelin and he married a poor woman from Rome, whose name is not known. He had three children in total and died in a monastery near Rome, where he had also spent his previous illness. Many of his paintings are in a country house near Stuttgart .
