Johann Georg Weichenberger

Johann Georg Weichenberger (born December 11, 1676 in Graz , † January 2, 1740 in Vienna ) was an Austrian lutenist , composer and imperial official of the Viennese court accounting.

Life

The son of a merchant from Graz, Johann Georg Weichenberger, was, like Wenzel Ludwig Freiherr von Radolt , not a full-time musician. In addition to his main occupation, Weichenberger established himself with the former as one of the most influential lutenists in the Austro-Bohemian region in the early 18th century. In addition to the "New French lute art" that he widespread, the lute concert was created after 1700. Weichenberger cultivated the French gallant style in his compositions . Weichenberger composed numerous suites and partitas for lute, as well as concerts for lute, violin and bass. His works can be found in many lute tablatures .
