Johann Gottfried Lohse

Johann Gottfried Lohse (* 1740 in Ruppendorf ; † 1810 in Dresden ) was a German architect.

Life

Lohse studied at the Dresden Academy with Krubsacius and enjoyed his practical training with Johann George Schmiedt . In 1778 he became a fortress builder . According to Heinrich Keller , Lohse built "many and large bourgeois buildings in and around Dresden". One of the numerous town houses that Lohse built was the Kreuzstraße 13 house, built in 1771. Furthermore , the "Nudelmühle", built around 1780 in the Wilsdruffer suburb , Ostra-Allee 6 . In addition, in 1784 and 1788, with the two head buildings Landhausgäßchen 1 and Moritzstraße 10, he created a "great [s] new [s] entrée [...]" to the country house garden. His buildings were based more on Schmiedt's late baroque tendencies than on Locke's “sober, conservative architecture” .
