Johann Gotthard Schlichthorst

Johann Gotthard Schlichthorst (born November 5, 1723 in Cadenberge , † December 15, 1780 in Bremen ) was a German theologian.

biography

Schlichthorst was the son of a businessman. The family was a well-known family of theologians. His son was the theologian and historian Hermann Schlichthorst (1766-1820). He received private tuition and then attended school in Otterndorf and the Domgymnasium Verden . He studied from 1742 to 1746 theology at the University of Rostock and the University of Göttingen . At first he worked as a tutor. In 1765 he became pastor and in 1775 pastor primary and superintendent at Bremen Cathedral . 1778/1780 he was the editor of a new hymn book for the cathedral parish. A number of his sermons were printed.
