Hermann Schlichthorst

Hermann Schlichthorst (born December 15, 1766 in Bremen , † February 29, 1820 in Visselhövede ) was a German theologian , educator and historian .

biography

Schlichthorst was the son of the cathedral preacher Johann Gotthard Schlichthorst (1723-1780). The family was a well-known family of theologians. He attended the cathedral school in Bremen and studied theology at the University of Göttingen . But he also dealt with history and ancient geography. From 1790 to 1798 he was a teacher at the city school in Stade . In 1798 he became a teacher and vice principal of the cathedral school and the Athenaeum in Bremen. He wrote some educational instruction books. Important was his work Beytrags to explain the older and more recent history of the duchies of Bremen and Verden , which appeared in four volumes from 1796 to 1806. He wrote about the position of Bremen and the Duchy of Bremen as well as about the Athenaeum of Bremen. In 1805 he became pastor in Visselhövede.
