from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Gottlieb Kirchner (* 1706 in Merseburg , † 1768 in Dresden ) was a German sculptor and porcelain modeler.

Life

He is the younger brother of Johann Christian Kirchner . Little is known about his training. He came to Dresden via Freiberg and worked with his older brother. He later went to Meißen and worked from 1727 to 1737 as a porcelain modeler and at times as a model master at the Meißner porcelain factory . The court sculptor Johann Joachim Kellers and model master Johann Gottlieb Kirchner worked together for the extensive production of sumptuous and decorative crockery for the needs of the Dresden court, for example on a major royal order: the establishment of the " Japanese Palace " in Dresden with large animal sculptures made of Meissen porcelain . Initially, the designs came from the Dresden sculptors Balthasar Permoser , Johann Benjamin Thomae and Paul Heermann . But later they implemented their own experiences as sculptors in their own designs and templates.
