Life

Johann Heinrich von Gertzen was the son of Johann Bertram von Gertzen and his wife Maria Elisabeth Print von Horchheim called von der Broil. His uncle Johann Wilhelm was provost in Paderborn and canon in Münster and Minden. Johann Heinrich was presented on March 15, 1638 for the cathedral priest of the late canon Johann Reinhard von Metternich. He took possession of the benefice on April 14th of that year. Emancipation followed on April 15, 1649 after submitting a certificate from the University of Bourges . Auxiliary Bishop Bernhard Frick issued a sub-deacon certificate on February 23, 1651 . Johann Heinrich was also canon in Speyer and Paderborn . On April 30, 1661, the cathedral chapter complied with his request to be allowed to resign. This wish was not implemented and had no consequences. On June 23, 1665 he opted for the archdeaconate on the Drein after the resignation of Canon Wilhelm von Fürstenberg. Because of serious health problems , he renounced the archdeaconate in November 1672 and the Münster prebende on March 28, 1673 and transferred it to his cousin Heinrich Adolf von Frentz . The Paderborn prebende went to Heinrich von Korff called Schmising.

Others

In 1673 Johann Heinrich donated the sum of 300 Reichsthalers for the construction of the chapel on the Gänsevöhde in Werl . The donor's coat of arms is located above the central door.

A building of the Capuchin monastery in Paderborn was restored through his legacy in 1674.
