Johann Hermann Kufferath (born May 12, 1797 in Mülheim an der Ruhr , † July 28, 1864 in Wiesbaden ) was a German composer .

Life

He was born as the eldest son of watchmaker Carl Kufferath and his wife Catharina. Horst was born in Mülheim an der Ruhr. Since he and six of his brothers had an unusual musical talent, contemporaries referred to them as the musical seven stars.

The student of Louis Spohr and Moritz Hauptmann was music director in Bielefeld from 1823 and city music director in Utrecht from 1830 . He wrote cantatas , overtures , motets and a singing textbook.

His younger brothers Louis and Hubert Ferdinand also made a name for themselves as composers.
