Johann Hermann Schacht (born April 6, 1725 in Bremen , † February 16, 1805 in Harderwijk ) was a German Reformed theologian.

Life

Schacht had completed his training in Bremen and completed a degree in theology at the University of Utrecht . Thereupon he was appointed preacher there on June 25, 1752 and in 1763 successor of Franz Ludwig Cremer (1715–1776) as professor of theology at the University of Harderwijk . He had previously received his doctorate in theology in August 1763 . He was also a preacher at the Church of the Academy from October 1763 to 1780.

He took up this position with a speech Oratio inauguralis de causis cur religio Christiana plures hodie quam olim experiatur obtrectatores ( why the Christian religion now has more enemies than before ) in 1764. There is also an academic speech Oratio qua demonstratur rationem sanam haud intercedere, quominus religionis Christianae mysteriis fidem habeamus (Traj. Ad Rh. 1766). Although he received further appointments to Bremen in 1766 and to Franeker University in 1787, he stayed in Harderwijk until he retired in the spring of 1804.

He was married to Helena Maria Gildemeester. Godefried Johannes Schacht (1764–1846) is his son.
