Johann Jakob Früh

Johann Jakob Früh (born June 22, 1852 in Märwil , Thurgau ; † April 8, 1938 in Zurich ) was a Swiss geographer and university professor.

Life

After the teaching diploma, which Johann Jakob Früh acquired in 1872 at the teachers seminar in Kreuzlingen , he studied from 1873 to 1876 at the University and at the Polytechnic in Zurich. In 1876 he received the subject teacher diploma for natural sciences and physical geography. After 13 years at the Trogen Cantonal School , he became an assistant to the geological collections at the Swiss Federal Polytechnic in 1890 and qualified as a professor in geography in 1891. In 1899 he was appointed Professor of Geography at the ETH Zurich . He founded the university's geographic institute, which he headed until his retirement in 1923.
