Johann Jakob Kohlhaas

Johann Jakob Kohlhaas (born October 19, 1747 in Markgröningen , † July 19, 1811 in Regensburg ) was a German physician and botanist. He was the city physician of Regensburg.

Life

Kohlhaas lost his parents at an early age, trained as a pharmacist in his hometown and then worked as a pharmacy employee in Stuttgart and Heidenheim. From 1767 he studied medicine in Tübingen with a licentiate in 1770 (with a dissertation on bladder stones). Then he was court master (private teacher) in Regensburg for five years. In 1774 he received his doctorate in medicine and was licensed as a doctor in Regensburg and became a citizen and began to practice. In 1779 he married the daughter of the Regensburg superintendent. In 1788 he became Physikus suffectus and garrison medic and began teaching young doctors. In 1789 he became second and in 1795 first city physician and doctor at Katharinenspital.

In 1794 he became a member of the Leopoldina . In 1790 he became president of the botanical society in Regensburg .
