Johann Joachim Busch (born September 18, 1720 in Schwerin , † December 27, 1802 in Plau am See ) was a Mecklenburg architect and sculptor .

Johann Joachim Busch came from a family of craftsmen and entered the service of the Mecklenburg Duke as a sculptor in 1748, where he worked under the French court architect Jean Laurent Legeay . Little is known about his education; among other things, the extensive library of his future client, Duke Friedrich , gave him an insight into the architecture of the 18th century . In 1758 Busch was appointed court architect . In 1779 Busch received the title of court building director , in 1796 he retired with the title of Oberhofbaurat and moved to live with relatives in Plau am See. His resting place in the local cemetery has not been preserved.

The ensemble of the residential town Ludwigslust was created based on an overall design by Busch , with the town church from 1765 to 1770, the Ludwigslust castle from 1772 to 1776 and various town houses and officials. The New Town Palace and the New Building (also known as the pillar building ) in Schwerin can be traced back to Busch , but it is not certain whether he was involved in planning the expansion of the Ahrensburg estate . From 1790 to 1792, the Marienkirche Waren, destroyed by fire, was rebuilt according to plans by Busch .

His nephew was the sculptor Johann Jürgen Busch . His successor as court architect was Johann Christoph Heinrich von Seydewitz .
