Johann Karl Friedrich Riese (born October 8, 1759 in Tempelhof ; † February 21, 1834 in Berlin ) was a German sculptor and porcelain artist. As a modeller for the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin (KPM) in Berlin, he developed the Kurland decor for Peter Biron, Duke of Kurland .

Life

Riese had been employed by KPM in Berlin since 1770, and from 1789 he held the position of master model there. In addition to the Kurland service, his works also include the figurative centerpiece Der Berg Olympos , which was presented as a gift from Friedrich Wilhelm III. was made for the marriage of the Hereditary Grand Duchess of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. Riese was probably significantly involved in the implementation of the group of princesses Johann Gottfried Schadows in porcelain. Following the example of Schadow's sculpture, Riese designed a bisque-porcelain bust of Queen Luise for KPM in 1798.

His great-grandson was the insurance director Hans Riese .
