Mount Ann Park is the name of an 87  acres (35.2  hectare ) nature reserve near Gloucester in the state of Massachusetts in the United States . It is managed by The Trustees of Reservations organization, but is not open to the public.

Protected area

The reserve consists essentially of densely overgrown forest areas in which Weymouth pines , oaks , maples , beeches , birches and hemlocks thrive. The highest point is formed by a rounded rock, which was geologically formed as an outcrop and consists of granite . There is a good view of Haskell Pond and Dykes Pond , both of which provide drinking water to Gloucester. Gloucester Harbor can also be seen to the south and Crane Beach to the north.

The initially freely accessible area was cut off from the only available access in the course of the construction of Massachusetts Route 128 in the 1950s, as the other sides of the reserve are either part of the hydrological catchment area of the city of Gloucester or border on private property. However, the trustees offer irregular guided hikes in the protected area.

The reserve was established in 1897 on the basis of a gift from the brothers of Henry David Minot, who wrote The Land Birds and Game Birds of New England at the age of 17 and died at a young age, to the Trustees and in the following Several decades - most recently in 1963 - expanded.
