Johann Leonhard Weidner

Johann Leonhard Weidner (born November 11, 1588 in Ottersheim ; † February 5, 1655 ) was a German humanist .

Life

The son of the pastor Leonhard Weidner attended from 1600 high school in Heidelberg and then stopped at the city's University Philology at Janus Gruter . Friedrich Lingelsheim († 1616; the son of Georg Michael Lingelsheim ) and Julius Wilhelm Zincgref were among his college friends .

Without having obtained his doctorate, in 1612 he took over the fourth teaching post at the pedagogy in Worms-Neuhausen , in 1615 became rector of the Latin school in Elberfeld , 1619 rector of the reformed Latin school in Montjoie , 1622 vice rector in Düsseldorf , 1623 rector of the grammar school in Duisburg , 1636 Vice-Rector of the School of Academics in Nijmegen , 1648 Rector of the Latin School in Maastricht , and finally in 1650 Rector of the newly organized grammar school in Heidelberg.

In Monschau he had married Sibylla († 1624), the daughter of Cleve's surveyor Heinrich von Sehnen. In 1625 he married the cousin of his college friend Julius Wilhelm Zincgref , Anna Maria Zinkgräf. With her he had the sons Johann Wilhelm, Albert Friedrich and Philipp Wilhelm. Six children survived.

He published anti-Jesuit writings and the multi-volume collection of quotations from the Teutscher Nation Apophthegmata , which were reprinted long after his death.
