Johann Ludwig Jachtmann

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Ludwig Jachtmann (born April 21, 1776 in Berlin ; † September 3, 1842 there ) was a Prussian court medalist .

life and work

Johann Ludwig Jachtmann was trained in the technique of die cutting by the coin medalist Johann Jakob Gottfried Stierle (1764–1806). From 1811 he was a full member of the Academy of Arts in Berlin , in 1820 he was appointed court medalist.

The artistic value lies less in style and composition than in the clean execution. He created the Blücher statue in Rostock, commemorative coins for Albrecht Dürer and the Reformation anniversary of 1828 as well as medals for Frederick the Great , Friedrich Wilhelm III. and Johann Christian Reil . The diligence of his work earned him the recognition of state authorities and several orders for the production of large seal stamps.
