Johann Luis (Mayor)

Johann Luis (born October 15, 1722 in Hamburg , † January 31, 1788 in Hamburg ) was a German businessman and politician .

Life

Luis was the son of the Hamburg mayor Johann Hermann Luis. Together with his younger brother Hinrich, he attended the Johanneum School of Academics . On January 23, 1748 he married Agathe Beckhoff, daughter of the former President of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce Johan Diederich Beckhoff; together they had seven children. Soon afterwards he was elected adjunct of the Jacobi Church and orphanage provisional. A number of other civil offices followed, until he was finally elected senator on April 11, 1768 . On August 27, 1784 he was promoted to mayor .
