Johann Vogt (printer)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Vogt , also Johannes Vogt , Johann Voigt or Johann Vogd (born before 1600; died around 1625 in Goslar ) was a German printer who worked in Goslar from 1604 or 1605 and founded a calendar printer there . From the period from 1605 to 1625 prints from his office are known.

Life

His origin is unknown, the civil rights of the city of Goslar were granted to him from 1608. Works from a wide variety of foreign publishers were printed in his printing house, for example he worked for the brothers Johann and Heinrich Stern in Lüneburg until 1624 , including a Luther Bible print from 1614 with several editions. When he was in financial distress in 1611, he applied for a loan of 300 thalers. He was married, so that after his death his daughter Kunigunde (* 1603; † January 15, 1692) was able to continue the print shop under the name of "Johann Vogts Erben" until 1628. In that year she married the typographer and type founder Nikolaus Duncker (1602–1671), who was the son of the Brunswick printer Andreas Duncker . As a result, the printing company was transferred to this.

In 1649, Duncker founded the Goslar mountain calendar . After his death on March 24, 1671, the printing works under the name "Nikolaus Dunckers Witwe" was initially continued by Vogt's daughter and finally in 1676 by her son, Simon Andreas Duncker (* September 1, 1640 - † June 10, 1708).
