Johann Müller (politician, 1875)

Johann Müller (born February 1, 1875 in Thuringia , † May 2, 1940 in Bludesch ) was an Austrian politician ( CSP ) and innkeeper. He was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament from 1910 to 1914 and from 1919 to 1928 .

Life

Johann Müller worked as an innkeeper and ran the “Zum Löwen” inn in Bludesch. He became involved as a member of the Christian Social Party and ran for it for the Vorarlberg state parliament. After Ignaz Nigsch withdrew, Müller replaced him in the state parliament on September 2, 1910, where he represented the rural communities in the electoral district of Bludenz - Montafon. He was elected to the finance committee in the 2nd session of the state parliament and later took on the role of deputy chairman in the finance committee. After the outbreak of the First World War, Vorarlberg was not called up until the end of the war. Müller was not a member of the provisional state parliament, but ran again in the state elections in 1919 and was re-elected as a member of the state parliament as a candidate for the Christian Social Party or as a member of the Bludenz constituency. He was sworn in on June 17, 1919 and subsequently belonged to the Vorarlberg state parliament for two full legislative periods. On April 1, 1928, he left the state parliament. In addition, from June 17, 1919 to November 5, 1923, he held the function of a substitute member of the Vorarlberg state government, where he was the representative of the then state governor Ferdinand Redler .

In addition to his work as a member of the state parliament, Müller was also involved in local politics in Bludesch and was a member of the municipal council from 1919 to 1921. He was also a co-founder of the Innerländer Brandschaden-Versicherung and was a member of the Innerländer Bauernbund. From August 1919 to May 1921 he also served as the first chairman of the Innerländer Bauernbund. Furthermore, in 1919 he was one of the founders of the Vorarlberger Bauernbund, was a co-founder of the Landesbauernbund in 1927, and from 1921 was chairman of the supervisory board of the “Alma” collecting cooperative.

After the National Socialists came to power, Johann Müller was imprisoned by the Gestapo in Innsbruck for political reasons between November 11, 1939 and November 21, 1939. After another arrest by the Gestapo in the spring of 1940, Müller died of a fatal heart attack.

Private

Johann Müller was the son of the farmer couple Johann Müller (1838–1895) and Johanna Pfister (1844–1875), both of whom were born in Thuringia. He married Sophie Bertsch (1879–1970 in Bludesch) from Langen near Bregenz on November 21, 1904 in Bludesch and between 1905 and 1909 was the father of two daughters and a son.
