Johann Maier (politician, May 1952)
Johann Maier (born May 8, 1952 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and former member of the National Council .

Johann Maier attended elementary school from 1958 and 1962 and then a general high school until 1970. After graduating from high school , Maier did his military service as a one-year volunteer between 1970 and 1971 . Maier then studied law at the University of Salzburg from 1971 and graduated in 1977 with the academic degree Mag. Iur. from.
Maier was a study assistant and contract employee at the University of Salzburg from 1973 to 1978 and was a university assistant and contract assistant there from 1978 to 1980. Maier completed his legal practice from 1979 to 1980 at the Salzburg Regional and Regional Court and has been an employee of the Salzburg Chamber of Labor since 1980 . Since 1982 he has been head of the consumer advice department.

Johann Maier has been section chairman of the SPÖ Salzburg- Itzling since 1995 and was elected to the SPÖ state party executive in 1995. Since 1997 he has also been deputy district party chairman of the SPÖ Salzburg-Stadt and vice-president of the Working Group for Sport and Physical Culture in Austria (ASKÖ) Salzburg. Since 2003, Maier has also been Deputy Chairman of the Austrian Data Protection Council, and he is also a board member of the Austrian Anti-Doping Committee (ÖADC).
Johann Maier was from March 14, 1996 until the end of the XXIII. Legislative period until October 27, 2008 Member of the National Council and since 2006 Chairman of the Consumer Protection Committee.
After the National Council election in Austria in 2008 , Johann Maier initially no longer had a seat in the National Council due to the lower mandate of his party, but he moved to its seat by appointing a member of the Federal Government Faymann I and was sworn in again on December 3, 2008. During this legislative period he was again the SPÖ's area spokesman for consumer protection and food control.
After the former Defense Minister Norbert Darabos returned to the National Council as the new SPÖ Federal Managing Director, Maier lost his mandate. Maier then became a member again for a few months - from July 2013 to October 2013, as the Salzburg member Stefan Prähauser renounced his mandate. After the National Council election in 2013, Maier missed the renewed entry into the National Council.
Maier is currently (2017) Chairman of the Data Protection Council at the Federal Chancellery, of which he has been a member since 2000.
