Johann Melchior Verdries (born June 26, 1679 in Gießen ; † July 25, 1735 there ) was a German doctor and professor of physics and medicine in Gießen.

Life

Verdries studied medicine in Gießen, Jena and Halle from 1694, with the license in Gießen in 1702. He then traveled to the Netherlands to study and received his doctorate in medicine in 1707. In the same year he became associate professor and in 1710 full professor for physics in Giessen. In 1714 he became associate professor and in 1720 full professor of medicine in Gießen and in 1727 counselor and personal physician to the Landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt.

He published a physics textbook. On October 20, 1704 was awarded the academic nickname Anaximenes I. a member ( Matriculation no. 255 ) of the Leopoldina selected.
