Johann Nemecek

Johann "Hans" Nemecek (born June 23, 1891 in Vienna ; † November 24, 1949 there ) was an Austrian alpinist and sports official.

Life

Nemecek was a merchant. He was already engaged in mountaineering at a young age. In the course of the First World War he was trained as an army mountain guide and deployed on the Dolomite front, where he was seriously injured in an avalanche accident. In 1924 he joined the Austrian Mountain Association (ÖGV) and in 1926 the Austrian Alpine Club (ÖAK) . In 1927 he was intensively involved in the ÖGV. Among other things, he founded the mountaineering group in the ÖGV with some like-minded people in the same year. He was also active on the building and route marking committee of the ÖGV and headed it until his death. From 1937 to 1938 he was 3rd Vice President of the ÖGV and in 1940 became its honorary member.

Nemecek was also involved in alpine rescue services. From 1928 to 1938 he was deputy chairman and rescue director of the “Alpine Rescue Committee Vienna” (ARAW), one of the predecessor organizations of today's Austrian Mountain Rescue Service .

Hans Nemecek hut above the Gießhübler Kuhheide

In 1941/42, a mountain rescue service hut named after him (Hans-Nemecek-Diensthütte) was built on the Raxgmoa hut on the Trinksteinsattel on the Raxalpe . The ÖGV built a club hut above the cast walls in the southern Vienna Woods ( Hinterbrühl municipality ), which was inaugurated in 1951 and named after Nemecek (Hans-Nemecek hut).
