Johann Nicolaus Frobesius

Johann Nicolaus Frobesius (also: Johann Nikolaus Frobes or Johann Nicolaus Froböse ; * January 7, 1701 in Goslar , † September 11, 1756 in Helmstedt ) was a German philosopher and mathematician.

His father was the councilor Georg Barthold Frobesius. Johann Nicolaus went to school in Goslar. From 1720 he attended the University of Helmstedt for three years . This was followed by a two-year study period at the Universities of Halle and Marburg . He spent the year 1725 preaching in Goslar. In the following year he went back to the University of Helmstedt. Between 1735 and 1743 he was awarded various professorial titles. From 1751 he devoted himself exclusively to mathematics. He made several publications. He is also credited with a collection of letters (including those from Leibniz ) that were found in the estate of Johann Friedrich Pfaff and are now kept in the University of Halle . As a philosopher he was strongly influenced by Christian Wolff .

He published a math history and biographical collection of mathematicians.
