Johann Nietz

Johann Nietz (* around 1800 in Bromberg ; † 1873 or 1874 in Berlin ) was a German architect and Prussian construction clerk .

Johann Nietz originally worked in the military as an engineer lieutenant, from 1837 as a prime lieutenant, and after studying at the building academy in Berlin, he was employed as a building manager and on November 1, 1837 as a master builder at the Oberbaudeputation . In 1843 he became a building inspector. In 1844 he switched to the Ministerial Building Commission. At the same time he taught at the United Artillery and Engineering School and was promoted to engineer captain in 1846. In 1851 he was promoted to the building council. In 1853 he retired from military service and became a co-conductor in the ministerial building commission as a government and building councilor. From 1851 to 1862 he was also a city councilor.

Nietz was friends with August Stüler . At the St. John's Church in Moabit, which was expanded from 1843 to 1853 according to Stüler's designs , he was in charge of the construction of the tower as well as the parish and school building. In 1848 he built the Wittich house on Königsplatz, in 1857 he was the construction manager of the wheelhouses on Charlottenburger Chaussee, also designed by Stüler, together with E. Junker, and from 1857 to 1859 he built the plant house of the Botanical Garden in Schöneberg, together with G. Herter (demolished in 1907).

In 1865 he went to Minden and became a Privy Councilor. After working in Minden for one year, he retired in 1866 and returned to Berlin as a judicial expert and appraiser in construction matters and as an architect for land, water and rail structures.
