Johann Nikodem von Flüe

Johann Nikodem von Flüe (* May 7, 1734 in Sachseln ; † February 13, 1823 ibid) was a Swiss officer in French service and Obwalden Landammann and Pannerherr .

Von Flüe was the son of Johann Wolfgang von Flüe (1691–1754) and Marie Regina Wirz and thus a descendant of Niklaus von Flüe . He was married to Marie Franziska Achermann from Nidwalden. Joseph Ignaz von Flüe (1762–1813) and Nikolaus von Flüe (1763–1839) were their sons. He lived on Obkirchen in Sachseln.

Von Flüe studied in Muri and Lucerne . From 1748, at the age of 14, he was already a second lieutenant in the French half company of his cousin Johann Peter von Flüe (1709–1783) and his father's company. From 1750 he was first lieutenant and from 1754 to 1770 captain. From 1763 to 1768 he was the owner of the France company.

In 1754 von Flüe became Obwalden councilor and 1755 major of the Obwalden auxiliary troops for Uri in the fight against the Leventines . He was still every other year in French service, so 1756–1759 on Corsica and 1760–1762 on the French side in the campaign in Germany. For the latter effort, von Flüe was awarded a knight (Chevalier) of the Order of St. Louis (Ordre royal et militaire de Saint-Louis).

In 1760 von Flüe became a regional ensign , from 1771 he was often a delegate to the Diet and from 1772–1796 every four years mayor. From 1774 to 1776 and from 1790 to 1792 he was bailiff in Thurgau . From 1783 to 1798 he was Pannerherr von Obwalden and Nidwalden.

After 1798 von Flüe took over various offices, for example he was the first governor of the Sarnen district and the chief taker of the canton of Waldstätten . In 1801 he was a member of the Swiss parliament in Bern. From 1803 he could no longer continue his political career in Obwalden.

The blazon of his coat of arms is: "In blue on a green Freiberg a soaring yellow lion with a white paw cross in its paws".
