Johann Oberleitner

Johann Oberleitner (born April 2, 1894 in Traunstein near Gmunden , † December 15, 1957 in Linz ) was an Austrian historian , archaeologist and museum director.

Life

After graduating from the Petrinum Linz high school , Oberleitner studied history and classical archeology at the University of Graz . In 1923 he became librarian at the Upper Austrian State Museum , and in 1947 deputy director.

After Franz Pfeffer left , Oberleitner became provisional director in 1952 and director of the Upper Austrian State Museum from 1955 until his death.

Oberleiter wrote several scientific articles and contributed significantly to the expansion of the graphic collection of the Upper Austrian State Museum. He was instrumental in promoting the construction of the Linz Castle Museum , which was only realized after his death.
