Franz Pfeffer (historian)

Franz Pfeffer (born July 14, 1901 in Mauthausen , † April 25, 1966 in Linz ) was an Austrian historian , cultural worker and journalist .

Life

After graduating from the Linz Academic Gymnasium, Pfeffer began studying philosophy in Vienna (German studies / history), which he obtained with the title of Doktor phil. completed. First he became a journalist in Linz. After Austria was annexed to the German Reich in 1938, Pfeffer entered the office of Reich Governor in 1941 as a cultural worker . After 1945 it was used in this function without interruption. In 1946 he founded the Institute for Regional Studies of Upper Austria . From 1947 to 1952 he was in charge of the Upper Austria. State Museum entrusted. Despite his historical merits, he received few honors.

In 1966 he died suddenly while the Atlas of Upper Austria was being published .
