Johann Pavonius

Johann Pavonius (* before 1505 in Eppingen ; † April 6, 1544 in Ketsch ), also Johannes Pavonius , Johannes Pavonis or Johann Pfau , was a German lawyer, professor and rector of the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg .

Life

Presumably Johann Pavonius attended the school in Eppingen, which has been documented since 1421. On August 27, 1515, he was entered in the register of Heidelberg University.

On October 22, 1527, Johann Pavonius became a licensee and on December 9, 1534 a doctorate in both rights at Heidelberg University. Until his death he taught as a professor of both rights at Heidelberg University. Pavonius was dean of the law faculty several times and rector of the university three times. In 1531, for example, he was the first married rector of Heidelberg University, as the teachers were usually clergy .

In 1538 Johann Pavonius was appointed to the court council by Elector Ludwig V.

Johann Pavonius drowned in 1544 near Ketsch in the Rhine .
