Johann Peter Guzinger

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Peter Guzinger , also Johann Petrus Gulzinger (born June 2, 1683 in Tussenhausen , † May 6, 1773 in Eichstätt ) was a German composer , chamber musician and violist .

Life

Little is known about the life of Johann Peter Guzinger. Various sources show that he was court and chamber musician of the Bishop of Eichstätt between 1726 and 1740 and thus a member of the court orchestra. He was particularly known and appreciated for his virtuoso playing on the viola d'amore , for which he also composed. He dedicated the Concerto grosso in C major to Duke Ludwig Rudolf, Prince of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel (archived in the Herzog August Library ). It can therefore be assumed that he was also active in this region at least on the occasion of a concert tour or that there were connections there. Some of his compositions have survived, especially the works for viola d'amore are still performed by baroque ensembles.

Works

  • 3 partitas in F major for flute , viola d`Amore and basso continuo (1726)
  • 2 suites in A major for viola d`Amore and bass or basso continuo
  • Concerto Grosso in C major, dedicated to Duke Ludwig Rudolf
  • Concerto in C major for 2 violins , 2 trumpets and basso continuo (1700)
  • Concerto in G minor for strings and harpsichord
  • several symphonies for chamber ensemble or orchestra
  • Aria "Sweet lips, lovely cheeks" (this composition is not backed up by Guzinger)
