Johann Pohl (agricultural scientist)

Johann Pohl (born December 2, 1842 in Römerstadt , Moravia , † March 25, 1913 in Vienna ) was an Austrian agricultural scientist .

After attending grammar school in Reichenau and Olomouc (Olmütz), Pohl studied at the Agricultural Academy in Hungarian-Altenburg . After several years as an economic manager and accountant on a domain in western Hungary, he became a teacher of animal breeding and management at the Francisco-Josephinum in Mödling near Vienna in 1870 . From 1888 he taught as a private lecturer and from 1895 to 1907 as full professor for agricultural management at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna.

Pohl went on extensive study trips through Western European countries. He published textbooks and handbooks on agricultural management and accounting. His main work "Landwirtschaftliche Betrieblehre" is one of the "classics" of this subject. Pohl also dealt with ethical-philosophical and historical questions of agriculture.
