John Rick

Johannes Rick SJ (born January 19, 1869 in Dornbirn - Hatlerdorf , † May 6, 1946 in Salvador do Sul ) was an Austrian Roman Catholic priest and mycologist . Its botanical author abbreviation is " Rick ".

Life

He is considered the father of Brazilian mycology . He was the first to systematically document the biodiversity of mushrooms, especially macro mushrooms, in southern Brazil. Rick established communication with several contemporary mycologists, such as Giacomo Bresadola, Curtis Gates Lloyd, Hans Rehm, and Hans Sydow, who helped him identify his Brazilian collections. From 1894 to 1898 he was a teacher in Feldkirch before studying theology in Valkeberg from 1899 to 1902 . As early as 1902 in Brazil he was a teacher until 1915, then from 1915 to 1929 as a social worker and finally professor of theology until 1942.
