Johann Friedel (Major General)
Johann Ritter von Friedel (born January 6, 1816 in Sanok , Galicia , † September 18, 1898 in Vienna ) was an Austrian major general .
Life
Johann Friedel was born the son of Sergeant Johann Friedel. After attending the regimental school, Friedel began his service in the lower ranks of the Carinthian Infantry Regiment No. 7 . There he became an officer and was in the adjutant corps from 1849. In 1858 he was major in the military chancellery and in 1859 participated in the Italian campaign. On 13 June 1862 he was in the equestrian levied. A dragon and a tower standing in a field are depicted on his coat of arms . Friedel became a colonel in 1879. Later he was secretary in the court building committee. One of his tasks was the supervision of courtly buildings. He was promoted to major general in 1892.
Since Friedel stood up for the interests of Klagenfurt , he was made an honorary citizen in 1858. The Friedelhöhe, Friedelstrand and Friedelstrasse are named after him.
