Johann Rudolf Thurneysen

Johann Rudolf Thurneysen (born November 5, 1716 , † February 26, 1774 ) was a Swiss legal scholar and historian .

The son of a councilor studied philosophy and law at the University of Basel . On May 31, 1731 he obtained the degree of a Baccalaureus artium , on May 28, 1733 he was Master's degree . On July 13, 1743 he received his doctorate in both rights with a dissertation on the unauthorized reprinting of books . In 1744 he became city consultant for Basel . On December 22, 1744, Thurneysen was appointed professor of history . On December 2, 1746, he switched to the professorship of Pandects and canon law . 1759/1760 he was rector of the University of Basel.
