Johann Rudolph von Ahlefeldt (1712–1770)

Johann Rudolph von Ahlefeldt (* July 2, 1712 ; † September 17, 1770 ) was lord of the noble estates Damp and Saxdorf and a benefactor .

Life

He was the son of the noble landlord Jürgen von Ahlefeldt (1682–1728) and his wife Margrethe Hedewig von Ahlefeld (1690–1744). His first wife was Elisabeth von Liliencron (1715–1734), whom he married in 1732. After her death, Johann Rudolph von Ahlefeldt married Margrethe Ollegard von Brockdorff in 1741 . This marriage resulted in four children, one of whom, the son Detlev , became the Royal Danish Chamberlain and District Administrator . Johann Rudolph von Ahlefeldt was considered a person of friendliness, kindness and philanthropy and contributed a lot to improving the social conditions on his property. He abolished body rule over his estates and advocated the principle that his workers and peasants should live in good conditions. Outside of his estates he also excelled as a benefactor and helped the poor and needy by donating goods and food. Shortly before his death he donated two money fideikommisse of 60,000 Reichstaler each for the further maintenance of the Saxdorf and Damp estates.
